The mobile bar insurance specialists

Bartender Insurance

Coverage for bartenders working events, private parties, and mobile bars — whether you're an independent contractor, working through a staffing agency, or running your own bartending business.

Same-day coverage is typically available, and your certificate of insurance is issued instantly after you bind.

What bartender insurance actually covers

"Bartender insurance" isn't one single policy — it's really two coverages working together. General liability is the foundation, responding to third-party injuries and property damage: a guest tripping over a cord, a dropped tray, a broken glass causing a cut. Liquor liability is separate and specific to alcohol service — it's what responds when a claim is tied to someone being over-served, regardless of who technically purchased the alcohol. A lot of bartenders assume general liability covers alcohol-related incidents too; it typically doesn't, which is exactly the gap liquor liability coverage is built to close. Depending on how you work, coverage can also extend to equipment, gear in transit, and commercial auto if you drive for the business.

Does a venue's insurance already cover you?

This is the question we hear most from bartenders searching for their own policy, and the honest answer is usually no. A venue's general liability insurance is written to protect the venue itself — its property, its own staff, its own operations. If you're working there as an independent contractor, through a staffing agency, or as a freelance bartender booked directly by a host, you're generally not an insured party under the venue's policy just because you're on their premises. The same is often true of staffing or catering agencies: their coverage may not extend to you personally, especially if you're 1099 rather than a direct employee. That's exactly why so many venues, planners, and agencies now require bartenders to show their own certificate of insurance before they'll book you — they're not assuming you're covered under their umbrella, and neither should you.

Solo, event, and mobile bar bartenders — same core coverage, different setup

Whether you're a solo bartender picking up occasional private parties, an event bartender working through a catering company or staffing agency, or running your own branded mobile bar business, the underlying exposure is the same: you're the one serving alcohol and interacting with guests. What changes is how coverage gets structured — whether you sell alcohol directly or the host supplies it, how many events you work per year, and whether you own bar equipment or trailers that need their own protection. If you're specifically running a mobile bar operation with your own setup, see our mobile bar insurance page or our page built around mobile bartender insurance specifically for bartenders who travel to events. This page is built for the broader question — whatever your setup, we'll structure the right policy around it.

What it costs, and how fast you can get covered

Cost mostly comes down to a few factors: how many events you work per year, whether you sell alcohol directly or work host-supplied events, what equipment you own, and whether you need commercial auto for a vehicle used in the business. See our pricing page for a realistic sense of what bartender insurance typically runs before you request a quote. Once you're bound, your certificate of insurance is issued instantly, so a venue's last-minute paperwork request never costs you a booking.
